Day of Service

CTA Students Honor 9/11 with Annual Day of Service

On September 11, Creative Technologies Academy came together for a powerful day of service, remembrance, and learning. Each year, CTA sets aside this day to honor the lives lost in the tragic events of 9/11 and to pay tribute to the first responders and service members who selflessly dedicate their lives to protecting others.

This year’s Day of Service brought community partners to campus, offering students the opportunity to learn firsthand from the men and women who serve locally and nationally. The highlight of the day was an aeromedical helicopter landing on CTA’s soccer field, sparking excitement and providing a rare chance for students to see up close the tools and teamwork required in life-saving missions.

Throughout the day, students engaged in hands-on experiences and conversations with representatives from:

  • Cedar Springs Fire Department

  • Michigan State Police

  • Walker Police Department

  • Solon Township Fire Department

  • Grand Rapids Dispatch

  • Corewell Health AeroMed

In addition to local first responders, students were able to hear from and honor military service members who shared their stories and experiences:

  • Cody & Laura McCarthy – U.S. Army

  • Roy Jibson – U.S. Army National Guard & U.S. Navy

  • Kate Faye – U.S. Marine Corps

  • Mike Walker – U.S. Army

The event was not only a time of remembrance, but also a chance for CTA students to reflect on the importance of service, courage, and community. By interacting directly with first responders and veterans, students gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made and the values of resilience and leadership that continue to shape our country.

We are proud to host this annual tradition, reminding students that 9/11 is not only a day of reflection, but also an opportunity to step forward in service and gratitude.
