ELEMENTARY/SECONDARY: OAKLAND SCHOOLS LED THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MAISA ELA COMMON CORE-ALIGNED UNITS OF STUDY THAT WERE PILOTED AND REVIEWED BY TEACHERS STATEWIDE. THIS MULTI-YEAR PROJECT RESULTED IN A COMPREHENSIVE K-12 CURRICULUM THAT IS ALIGNED NOT ONLY TO THE STANDARDS, BUT ALSO ACROSS GRADES. THESE UNITS ARE NOT SCRIPTS BUT ARE GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS; WE ENCOURAGE EDUCATORS TO ADAPT THEM FOR THEIR POPULATION AND CONTEXT.

Elementary Math Scope and Sequence
Middle School: Glencoe Math Connects ensures student success with rigorous content by providing in-depth lessons with built-in differentiation which enables teachers to effortlessly tailor instruction to all levels of learners.
Multi-part Lessons: Math Connects breaks down concepts into easy-to-understand segments and provides practice for every segment of the concept.
High School: Illustrative Mathematics is a problem-based curriculum that makes rigorous high school mathematics accessible to all learners.
Teachers help students understand the problems, ask questions to push their thinking, and orchestrate discussions to be sure that the mathematical takeaways are clear.
Students frequently collaborate with their classmates—they talk about math, listen to each other’s ideas, justify their thinking, and critique the reasoning of others. They gain experience communicating their ideas both verbally and in writing, developing skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

9-12th: Oakland Schools has developed a model curriculum, known as MAISA, with instructional materials aligned to Michigan standards for social studies and content literacy. These online materials are grounded in research and delineate best practices in social studies education.
